HBO offered the first footage from Season 2 of its Emmy-nominated drama Game of Thrones on Sunday in a new production promo airing before Boardwalk Empire featuring both new and familiar faces (Sean Bean!).
The short production promo features Thrones author/executive producer George R.R. Martin discussing the translation of the books to the screen as well as interviews with executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as well as Bean, whose Ned Stark was beheaded in Season 1.
Noting that it’s “fantasy done for adults,” Martin touted that he was more interested in telling the stories of the people in this world, warning “too much magic can ruin a fantasy.”
“The majority of my fans are going to be very happy because they’re going to see the story I told come alive played by some fantastic actors: Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, the kids – our cast is just astonishing,” Martin says.
